REMEDIAL MASSAGE

Massage involves a manual application of pressure and movement to soft body tissues the skin, muscles, tendon, ligaments, and fascia (membranes surrounding muscles). Massage is believed to increase blood circulation and flow of lymph (fluid from body tissues that flows into the blood stream). It helps the body to heal itself by promoting the flow of blood and lymph, stimulating nerves, conditioning the skin, and stretching and loosening muscles to keep them elastic. Chronic stress can influence a number of illnesses including migraines, depression, and hypertension. Massage therapy can help to relieve tension and counteract the effects of day to day stress on the body. Sports injuries and back pain will improve with massage, exercises and appropriate referral if needed. Physical Reality massage therapists specialise in sports and remedial massage consultations.

PILATES (Pe-lat-tees)

Pilates is a series of controlled movements with a strong mind and body focus. Pilates has a strong awareness of strengthening the core stabilising muscles, and increasing flexibility to create a more balanced body. The Pilates Methods of exercise was developed in the 1920’s by the German born Joseph Pilates. Pilates is a unique form of all over body conditioning exercises that develops strength, flexibility, co-ordination and endurance. The method works the muscles through their full range of motion, resulting in greater strength and flexibility through their entire range. Active treatment via Pilates exercises assists with recovery from injury. Pilates also addresses postural problems and therefore corrects imbalances to prevent injuries. Pilates mat-work classes are conducted at Gymea clinic under Exercise Physiologist, Brent Collier, NSW Ph: 9524 5180 for appointment
